How much is a Trip to Jamaica

Jamaica is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean. Famed for being the birthplace of reggae, this island country exudes a laidback vibe. From its British colonial architecture to its all-inclusive resorts, Jamaica continues to entice tourists from all over the world.

It is no secret that vacationing in the Caribbean can be quite expensive. This is especially true for island destinations which have been developed as luxury resorts. Fortunately, Jamaica remains relatively affordable despite its immense popularity.

So, now, let’s get to the question: how much is a trip to Jamaica?

Price of Staying Jamaica

Staying Jamaica

Jamaica is a leading player in the tourism scene in the Caribbean. It has some of the most beautiful and most visited resorts in the region. Understandably, it also has some of the most expensive accommodations.

But that is not to say that the price of living in Jamaica is obscenely high. The price range varies, and there are both cheap and expensive options for every good and service.

The prices of airline tickets to Jamaica widely vary depending on a number of factors. The primary consideration, of course, if your country of origin. If airlines in your country have regular trips to Jamaica or to anywhere in the Caribbean, then price tickets will more likely to be fairly reasonable.

Generally, round trip tickets to Jamaica will cost somewhere between $250 and $300. The price could go lower during special promotions and could go higher during peak season.

Before booking a flight to Jamaica, you might want to check out Kayak or TripAdvisor first to see if there are existing promos and/or discounts. If you have a long time to plan your trip, it is also advisable to book your flight in advance to score cheaper tickets.

Availing of Vacation Packages

Jamaica is a famous tourist destination for good reason. Not only is it incredibly beautiful and vibrant, it is also a very convenient place to visit. There are tons of vacation packages which you can choose from. The best thing about these vacation packages? They plan everything for you.

That’s right! Vacation packages to Jamaica do not only offer accommodations, they also offer roundtrip tickets. The accommodations are often all-inclusive resorts, which are quite popular in Jamaica.

These all-inclusive resorts offer a plethora of activities to guests such as swimming, boating, and snorkeling. All-inclusive packages also give guests free and unlimited access to amenities. Some vacation packages even include meals.

You can avail of vacation packages by coordinating with travel agencies in your home country. If you plan to travel during the off-peak season, there are greater chances of getting discounts.

Alternatively, you can avail of vacation packages from websites such as Cheap Caribbean which features Jamaican travel deals. You can usually get discounted vacation packages for two persons for around $600.

Scouring the web for ticket discounts and vacation packages are not the only ways to save money during your visit to Jamaica. There are other practical ways by which you can keep your costs down.

My first tip is to know the exchange rate. Exchange rates vary from one place to another. Knowing how much your US dollars are actually worth will keep you from entering a bad deal. Changing centers in Negril generally offer a greater amount of each dollar, but you will find great deals in different areas.

As a rule, try to avoid changing centers near airports. The best rates are never there. Instead, head out to the city and other major tourist hubs.

Secondly, make sure to bring some cash in small denominations. The US dollar is accepted in a lot of stores in Jamaica, so you wouldn’t need to have your money changed to the local currency all the time.

A couple of small dollar bills would be handy in making small purchases and in tipping. They would also keep you from overpaying. In addition, having cash handy would save you ATM withdrawal fees.

Finally, try mixing up your accommodation. It might be tempting to stay in a luxury hotel the entire time, but it can certainly leave a dent in your wallet. Instead of doing that, you can check in a hotel resort for a couple of days. You can then transfer to a smaller hotel or inn after that.

Jamaica has some of the finest and most exclusive luxury resorts in the world, but that doesn’t mean you have to break your bank in visiting this beautiful island country. The tips I enumerated above can help you score great discounts and substantially cut your costs.
